Measling Cottage is a detached cottage with outbuildings that has been recently renovated to a high standard while remaining full of character. It is ideally located for those looking to take in the history of Hadrian’s Wall or explore the Pennine Way. The Pennine Way runs right alongside the property. Set just off the A69 for easy access via road, the property remains private and hidden by the trees that line the bottom of the garden, but is close to the local amenities in Greenhead and Halthwistle.
You will enter the property through the conservatory where you can store muddy boots and coats. The door to the cottage still has the original knocker from when the cottage was first built. The kitchen is well equipped and finished to a high standard. The living room is given character from the exposed stone wall, the large window overlooks the garden to the front making it light and airy and there is log burning stove for times when you want to cosy up in front of the TV. There is a dining room with table and chairs, a log burning stove and a snuggle chair providing a cosy area to read. The main bathroom has a separate bath and shower.
Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms which sleep 6, 2 double rooms and one twin/double (can be either depending on requirements). The master double is full of character with its high ceiling, exposed beams and the original fireplace. This room has an ensuite shower room and wardrobe. A cot can be provided on request. The bedrooms to the front of the property have views over the fell, where you might be lucky enough to spot birds of prey, foxes or deer.
There are washing facilities for clothes, housed in one of the outbuildings.
Here you will also find two 2 adult bikes and 2 childrens bikes available to use at no extra cost (you must provide your own safety equipment including helmet) and a fold away treadmill.
The beautiful gardens surround 3 sides of the property, so there is ample outdoor space for children to play or for the adults to relax on the picnic benches with a drink or two. To the rear there is a pond with security fencing and the neighbours have ducks which they allow children to feed.
The gravelled area provides parking inside the gates of the property for two cars and additional parking is available opposite the property.
Pets are welcome with prior notification.
Your hosts can provide packed lunches on request - to be arranged at the property.
