1 Pasture Houses is situated above the quaint village of Garrigill. The cottage sleeps 4 guests in one king size and one twin bedroom (a travel cot is also available). There is a cosy living room with log burning stove, a separate dining room and a well-equipped kitchen. The living room and dining room have stunning views towards Great Dun Fell (848m) plus there is a boot room for drying kit. There is a two-tier garden overlooking the South Tyne countryside. There is parking space for one car beside the cottage and further parking on the quiet road leading to the property.

Pets are welcome to stay at the cottage by prior arrangement. 

Local Information

1 Pasture Houses is located above the village of Garrigill and is a 10-minute drive from Alston, the highest market town in England. The cottage is ideally situated to explore County Durham, Northumberland and acts as a gateway into the Lake District. You can begin many walks or cycle routes from the doorstep – the house is situated on the Coast2Coast cycle route and the Pennine Way. The cottage is a 10-minute walk into Garrigill where you will find a post office and 16th Century pub. For a wider variety of shops, Alston is a 10-minute drive; here you will find a good source of amenities including a butcher’s, baker’s, grocery stores, chemist, hardware store, fuel and a tourist information centre. A full list of which can be found in the cottage upon your arrival. We also offer a discount voucher to all guests which will be emailed to you prior to your stay. There are a number of local pubs in Alston offering an excellent variety of home-cooked meals or if you fancy a takeaway, there is also a fish & chip shop.

Local attractions include: Killhope Lead Mining Museum, the South Tyne Railway, High Force and Ashgill Falls, and Yad Moss for skiing just to name a few. Further afield, the Beamish Museum, Hadrian’s Wall, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Hexham Abbey and the Scottish Lowlands are within easy reach. Please drop into our office for further information.

  • Travel the B6277 road passed Garrigill.
  • Once passed Windy Hall, take the 1st road to your right – signposted Pasture Houses.
  • 1 Pasture Houses is situated at the bottom of the track, first cottage you come to.
