You’ll find Ghyll Burn Cottage up a tree-lined private track in a secluded valley where the small Ghyll Burn flows. You’ll enjoy peace and tranquility surrounded by an abundance of wildlife such as red squirrel, roe deer and many species of birds. The owners have a specialist hardy plant nursery on site, which you are free to explore, and way-marked footpaths criss-cross the area leading to the South Tyne and the Pennine Way. Ghyll Burn is a welcoming and cosy stone cottage dating back to 1680. The owners have fully renovated it so it has all the great amenities you’ll need, while keeping its original features and charm.
The cottage sleeps six, in one double bed, two singles and a double sofa bed. The bedrooms and bathroom are located downstairs, while the open plan dining room/ kitchen and the living room are upstairs. The living room has beautiful wooden beams, comfy sofas and a log-burning stove. All rooms have views over looking the garden. The cottage has private parking
A travel cot and highchair are available.

Alston is the highest market town in England and boast good local amenities. It has many independent shops, eateries, cafes and pubs, including Saddlers Baker which makes fresh bread and baked goods from scratch, Alston House which serves delicious home cooked meals made using locally sourced produce and the Cane workshop which sells award winning Jams and Chutneys. From the outdoor clothing shop, where you can stock up on supplies to the fish and chip shop where you can grab a tasty treat, there is plenty to do in Alston.
The area is close to the borders of Durham, Northumberland and is a gateway into the Lake District making this an ideal base to get out and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Killhope Lead Mining Museum, the South Tyne Railway and Yad Moss Ski Slope are some amazing local attraction to name just a few. For those who enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling, the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Route runs right through Alston. The rolling countryside with unspoiled panoramic views of moorland is home to an abundance of wildlife and some amazing natural beauties including Ashgill waterfall.

Leave Alston and head over the bridge towards the Alston to Hartside road
Take a left turn signposted to Garrigill and follow this road for 0.7miles
You will see a sign on the right for Low Gill House, Barn End & Ghyll Burn Cottage and our Pennine Country Cottage board
Drive up the tree lined track over the small ford and take a sharp left
Drive around the building and Ghyll Cottage is at the far end, parking by the white stone steps leading up to the front door. You will be met on arrival by the owners Sue and Neil.
