Ghyll Burn Cottage is located just on the outskirts of the pretty market town of Alston, nestled amongst woodland, where the cottage boasts a traditional feel. With all the local amenities Alston has to offer and the wide open countryside right on the doorstep it is perfect place to holiday for anyone looking for peace and quiet to outdoor adventures.

The cottage entrance is on the 1st floor, directly into the open plan kitchen diner. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering with a fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and oven with hob. There is also a washing machine should you need to do any washing during your stay. The large dining table is perfect for eating meals together or playing board games on an evening. Just off the kitchen diner, there is the living room which benefits from a log burning stove, exposed wooden beams and a high ceiling. This spacious room has comfy seating including a sofa which is a double sofa bed, sleeping 2. There is also a separate toilet.

Downstairs the cottage sleeps four in 2 bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with two singles, both have storage for luggage and clothes. The family bathroom has both a bath and shower above.

Outside the property there is a small courtyard with garden furniture and lawns which are shared with the adjoining house and holiday cottage, Low Gill House and Barn End Cottage.

Local Information
Alston is the highest market town in England and boast good local amenities. It has many independent shops, eateries, cafes and pubs, including Saddlers Baker which makes fresh bread and baked goods from scratch, Alston House which serves delicious home cooked meals made using locally sourced produce and the Cane workshop which sells award winning Jams and Chutneys. From the outdoor clothing shop, where you can stock up on supplies to the fish and chip shop where you can grab a tasty treat, there is plenty to do in Alston.
The area is close to the borders of Durham, Northumberland and is a gateway into the Lake District making this an ideal base to get out and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Killhope Lead Mining Museum, the South Tyne Railway and Yad Moss Ski Slope are some amazing local attraction to name just a few. For those who enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling, the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Route runs right through Alston. The rolling countryside with unspoiled panoramic views of moorland is home to an abundance of wildlife and some amazing natural beauties including Ashgill waterfall.

Leave Alston and head over the bridge towards the Alston to Hartside road
Take a left turn signposted to Garrigill and follow this road for 0.7miles
You will see a sign on the right for Low Gill House, Barn End & Ghyll Burn Cottage and our Pennine Country Cottage board
Drive up the tree lined track over the small ford and take a sharp left
Drive around the building and Ghyll Cottage is at the far end, parking by the white stone steps leading up to the front door. You will be met on arrival by the owners Sue and Neil.
