The local pubs serve a good variety of homemade food, Alston House has an excellent restaurant and there is also a fish and chip shop.
For days out, Lantern House is ideal for local walks including part of the Pennine Way or cycling along the river and hillsides with unspoilt panoramic views of moorland and an abundance of wildlife.
